    Experience:
    Mr. Zhao received his LLB from Shanghai Maritime University in 1990 where he majored in international shipping management and maritime law. Between 1995 and 1996, he studied international arbitration in Hong Kong. From 2003 to 2005, he studied as a post-graduate law student in China University of Political Science and Law with a major in corporate and finance law.

    From 1990 to 1996, Mr. Zhao was employed by Guangzhou Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Transport to handle issues regarding chartering, salvage, marine engineering projects, insurance, etc., and as in-house counsel from 1992 onwards. He was also employed part-time at a law firm in Guangzhou. In 1996, after completing his studies and required training in Hong Kong he was qualified to deal with Hong Kong arbitration matters and joined Wang Jing & Co. that same year. He is a senior partner of the Firm in charge of the Maritime Group.

    Mr. Zhao has handled hundreds of court proceedings, arbitrations and non-contentious matters since the 1990s and has successfully managed and settled a variety of complex and high-value disputes. He has extensive experience dealing with matters involving charter parties, bills of lading, logistics, marine engineering projects, insurance, salvage, towage, barge transportation, maritime fraud, shipping investment and finance, international trade, foreign direct investment, and corporate transactions. He is recognized as one of the top maritime lawyers in China. Besides litigation and arbitration, Mr. Zhao also provides advice and counsel on non-contentious issues for a number of large enterprises. He has assisted a number of large foreign enterprises operating in the logistics field to enter the Chinese market through acquisition of domestic logistics companies or ports. He also acts as legal counsel to a host of international companies and listed companies from China, East Asia, the United Stated and Europe. He also provides legal training to various companies. 

    Mr. Zhao serves as one of the team leaders for the “Study of Salvage Convention and Standard Form of Salvage Agreement”. In addition, he has published in the Chinese Maritime Law Yearbook and other prestigious magazines a great number of articles on hot topics such as ship finance.

    Mr. Zhao is the vice director of the Ocean Shipping Regulation Committee of China Maritime Law Association (CMLA) and a member its Rescue and Salvage Law Committee. He has over the years been recognized by Asia Law & Practice as the top Chinese lawyer practicing in matters relating to shipping, maritime and aviation law.
